60 HOUR HEO PROGRAM
SCHEDULE
Students will train, in class and on-site, for a total of 60 hours over a 1 week period utilizing 10 hours per day, 6 days a week. The program schedule is as follows:
• Total Hours – 60 Hours
• Total Weeks – 1 Week
• Hours Per Day – 10 Hours/Day 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• 6 Days Per Week – Monday through Saturday
Please Note:
The first day of the program is Orientation. This is an in-class day. Transportation to and from the training site is the responsibility of the student. Lunch will not be provided but students will receive breaks throughout the day.

This program is registered with The Ministry of Advanced Education, and is designed to safely introduce new persons to the heavy equipment operating industry or those interested in upgrading their operating skills in a controlled environment, under the supervision of qualified instructors registered through Sask Learning.
Each program is approximately, but not limited to, 6 students on a first come, first served basis. Students will train on ONE piece of equipment of their choice. Students can choose between the Excavator, Dozer, Grader, Articulated Truck &/or Loader.
Please note that equipment selection may be subject to change depending on availability/unforeseen circumstances.
There will be a maximum of 3 students assigned per piece of equipment.

Operators should be re-evaluated in situations where they have not been operating such PME regularly for a period of 3 years.
IN CLASS INSTRUCTION
20% or 12 hours allocated to in-class instruction.
In-class instruction will cover such aspects as:
• Trade Practices – Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), environmental concerns, and importance of tailgate meetings, safe rigging practices and climate extremes.
• Industry Standards – Importance of good communication, International Color Code, hand signals and incident report forms.
• Equipment Components – Review of equipment manufactures service manuals, attachments and accessories.
• OH&S Regulations – Review of applicable OH&S Regulations for heavy equipment operations.
PRACTICAL INSTRUCTION
80% or 48 hours allocated to practical instruction.
In addition to machine operation, practical instruction will cover such aspects as:
• Pre-Operational Checks – To be able to complete a walk around inspection of equipment, fill-out the required equipment log books and understand the functions of all the components.
• Equipment Servicing – Knowledge of all the controls, operational functions and limitations of the equipment. Oil changes and minor servicing if needed.
• Construction Techniques – Pre-job site safety assessment, environmental considerations, operational techniques complimenting the Pipeline Equipment Operator Trade.
• Observation & Communication – the ability to learn to communicate with individuals who are operating equipment with the use of hand signals. Observe techniques that display the capacity of each piece of equipment.
EVALUATION
80% of the students overall grade will be based on a practical evaluation.
10% of the students overall grade will be based on written exams from in-class instruction.
10% of the students overall grade will be based on attendance.
Students must receive a total average (including written exams, practical evaluations and attendance combined) of 70% or more in order to pass successfully and receive their certificates of completion.
Students failing to attend 90% of the program (absence of 6 instructional hours) will forfeit their certificate of completion.
PLEASE NOTE: If a student does not complete the program within the contract period and chooses to extend the contract in order to complete the program, an extension fee of $500 per day will apply, and return date to do such will be dependent on seat availability.
Upon successful completion, students will receive a wall size (full page) Certificate of Completion, wallet size card indicating the equipment of which they were trained on, Official Transcript & Employment Contact List w/current job postings within the industry.
Graduates will receive hours of credit which can be applied to the Pipeline Equipment Operator Trade.

PAYMENT REQUIREMENTS
ALL TUITION PAYMENTS must be received by the Institute on or before the program START DATE – NO EXCEPTIONS.
* The Institute does not accept debit/credit card transactions. Payment must be made in the form of cash, cheque, certified cheque, money order or by e-transfer to pti@sasktel.net.
* Should debit/credit be your preferred choice of payment, please visit any Canada Post office to purchase a money order in that form and forward the money order to the Institute.
